I registered two domain names last year with Network Solutions for cheap but now they want to charge me $100. Any recommendations on somewhere cheaper to switch it to?

I use moniker.com. They aren’t the cheapest around, but they are reliable. I’ve also heard good things about gandi.net, hover.com and namecheap.com.

Just getting around to this and have a follow up question, which I am not even sure how to phrase. My Network Solutions (where my domain name is currently registered) account doesn’t expire until the end of the year. Do I just wait until it does before registering it elsewhere? Otherwise, it’s already taken (be me!).

Check out these instructions (under “transfer in”) if you decide to go with Moniker. Otherwise whichever registrar you choose to go with will likely provide similar instructions. It’s usually a pretty quick process.
