The landscape of developer tools from Esri are wide and varied. When it
comes to building customized web applications that display maps and provide
tools for managing and analyzing data, while there are many code-less
    options, sometimes you need more.
So this month, we’re going to DIG INTO SOME CODE, and get hands-on with it.
Templates, builders, and widgets can save you a lot of time, but sometimes
you just need to roll up your sleeves and dig into the code to make things
work the way you need them to.
Whether you are new to the API, or you have been working with it a while and
want to get your hands on what’s new, we have something for you.

    _____

    Agenda

    12:00-1:00pm – LET’S GET STARTED – A “From Square One” Intro
Are you new to the ArcGIS API for JavaScript, or want a quick refresher? If
so, stop by at noon and we’ll get you a bit more up to speed.
If you are new to JavaScript altogether, taking a couple of hours before the
meetup to scoot thru the first 35 modules of this self-paced and interactive
online course will help you: (https://www.w3schools.com/js/js_intro.asp)
    https://www.w3schools.com/js/js_intro.asp (“JS Introduction” through “JS
Break”). Another good resource is the Intro to JavaScript training on
    FreeCodeCamp.org:

    1:00-5:00pm – LET’S SEE WHAT’S NEW – A Little More Advanced
If you’ve been working a bit with the ArcGIS API for JavaScript, or just got
spun up between 12:00-1:00pm, we’re going to cover some new topics.
The Top Three of What’s New (v4.11)
The new v4.11 of the ArcGIS API for JavaScript introduces several new and
improved capabilities. Let’s get hands-on with them!
    GeoJSONLayer:
Direct connect to NYC Open Data–YES! That’s right, no longer do you have to
parse things yourself, or get in a cycle of downloading and re-hosting data
as city agencies update it. Let’s get hands-on with this new class, and
learn some tips for using it along with Socrata’s Open Data (SODA) API.
    Editor widget:
Are you building web apps that do field data collection? This new widget has
design improvements that makes editing data easier and more powerful than
    before.
    Thematic rendering improvements:
Let’s get hands-on with the new DotDensityRenderer and HeatmapRenderer.
    _____

    BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
Attendees should bring their own laptop computers which are capable of
connecting to and browsing the internet, and downloading/uploading data.
Attendees should also sign up for an ArcGIS Developer account prior to the
event. To create a *FREE* ArcGIS Developer account, sign up at
    (https://developers.arcgis.com/sign-up)
    https://developers.arcgis.com/sign-up . It’s quick and easy!

    Location Details
