    Dear DRI alums,

I’m writing to ask you to invite GC community members you know to our Winter GC Digital Research Institute (GCDRI). Applications are due tomorrow, December 1st, 11:59 PM. Here’s the message to forward:

Winter GC Digital Research Institute (GCDRI)

    Jan 19 – Jan 21, Jan 24 – Jan 25, 2022, over zoom

Applications are due tomorrow, December 1st, 11:59 PM.

The GC Digital Research Institute (DRI) is an introduction to core digital research skills that can be applied widely to different kinds of projects. This institute is catered towards building foundational skills and will be paced accordingly to ensure those who are new will leave feeling more confident in their skills. DRI is designed for beginning learners—those who have little or no prior experience working with a programming language. We begin with an introduction to computing using the command line.

To accommodate a remote-learning environment, the 2022 DRI will consist of five Zoom sessions. Our first day of the institute takes place on Wednesday, January 19, at 9:30 AM, which will begin with a kick-off event and consist of various sessions held between 9:30 AM and 3:30 PM from January 20th to January 25th, with a break over the weekend.During the application process, participants will choose either the Python or R track. Throughout the DRI, participants will gain a foundational understanding in either language during dedicated workshops and practice sessions. Beyond our Zoom meetings, DRI will also include space for informal co-working meet ups and opportunities to collaborate with peers. By applying, you agree to participate in all activities.

Participation is free, and open to graduate students, faculty, and staff at the Graduate Center; however, applications are required. Applications are due by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. More information about the choice between the R and Python tracks, previous institutes, application information session, and what to expect, along with a link to the application can be found on the GC DRI website: https://gcdri.<wbr />commons.gc.cuny.edu/.

Funding for the GC Digital Research Institute is made possible through a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) and the Graduate Center Provost’s Office. If you have any questions, please respond to this email!

    Thank you,

    Digital Fellows Program
