Hi all,
I just wanted to let you know about a workshop that I’m giving next week as part of the Digital Initiative’s Social Media Research Series that might be of interest to some of you. It will be on collecting tweets from Twitter and visualizing them as a map in QGIS. We’ll also go over some of the possibilities and limitations of using data from social media for research.
Here’s all of the info:
Workshop: Mapping Tweets in QGIS
Wednesday, February 13th, 6:30-8:30pm, Room 9206
Analyzing both the spatial and social content of social media feeds is referred to as geosocial analysis. This workshop will start off with a discussion about the types of questions that can be answered with a geosocial analysis. We will also explore some of the current limitations. We will then extract geosocial data from Twitter and visualize it as a map in QGIS.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the workshop. Look forward to seeing you there!
