The Digital Public Library of America will launch this Thursday, April 18th, 2013, connecting America’s libraries, archives, and museums, allowing archives and digital collections of all variety to be discovered using the enriched hub of metadata. The DPLA launch party, planned for Thursday the Boston Public Library, right in front of where this Monday’s tragedy occurred, has been cancelled, but the site will go live at noon. Dan Cohen, the newly appointed Founding Executive Director, since March of this year, posts his condolences to the people of Boston. Arrangements for the Fall will be made. The Friends of the Mina Rees Library welcomes Robert Darnton, founder of the Digital Public Library of America and Harvard’s head librarian, in conversation Monday afternoon April 29 with President Kelly and Professor Kornblum of Sociology and chair of the Friends of the Mina Rees Library.
