On behalf of the Archivo de Respuestas Emergencias de Puerto Rico (AREPR), I am writing today to let you know of some exciting new Omeka S themes and modules our amazing developer, Ivy Rose, has recently released.
The theme, “Multilingual(https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://github.com/ivyrze/omeka-s-theme-multilingual__;!!GekbXoL5ynDpFgM!C2n0fmbFXjwGipSYA881EHLExZ0qyaAd4NRkefzbLkkO63Eq3x1sTCIXJrbKSaG_8Q$)” builds upon The Daily theme to bring some fantastic additions including togglable multilingual sites, accessibility functionality, and stylistic adaptability. Our project is using the theme for switchable Spanish and English sites, and it can similarly support a wide array of other languages. At present the theme doesn’t have official versions, with changes made on a rolling basis through git.
Alongside the theme, two great new modules are now available:
* “SimplePDF(https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://omeka.org/s/modules/SimplePdf/__;!!GekbXoL5ynDpFgM!C2n0fmbFXjwGipSYA881EHLExZ0qyaAd4NRkefzbLkkO63Eq3x1sTCIXJrZQyub_DQ$)” is a document viewer for PDF files with a key focus on accessibility, allowing for screen reader usage in multiple languages as well as the inclusion of accessible PDFs.
* “Vimeo(https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://omeka.org/s/modules/VimeoEmbed/__;!!GekbXoL5ynDpFgM!C2n0fmbFXjwGipSYA881EHLExZ0qyaAd4NRkefzbLkkO63Eq3x1sTCIXJrYy5U0tGw$)” allows for easy embedding of Vimeo videos, providing an interactive transcript UI and ingesting higher resolution video thumbnails into your Omeka collection. As with SimplePDF, Vimeo has been optimized for screen reader accessibility and usage in multiple languages, allowing for quick toggling between transcripts and translations.
