Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

Next Meeting: David L. Hoover on “New-Fangled/Old-Fashioned Digital Literary Studies” – Wed Mar 9

  • All,

Hope you saw on the blog that we’re lucky enough to be hosting David L. Hoover from NYU on Wednesday for a talk called “New-Fangled/Old-Fashioned Digital Literary Studies.” This is a great opportunity to get an overview of an important field within DH from a truly expert practitioner.

David’s work accords very well with our DIY DH theme this semester – for instance, he teaches a class at the Digital Humanities Summer Institute which focuses on “Out-of-the-Box Text Analysis” using readily-available tools. So please come and join us in welcoming David to CUNY DHI!

That’s on Wed, Mar 9, 6:30-8:30pm in Room 6417 at the Grad Center. Check out the blog for more information:

And a flyer is attached – it would be great if you could post/pass it around to your colleagues.

    Best,
    Charlie

  • It’s a pity all these activities are on Wednesday. I teach at that time, and this one interested me a lot. Do you plan to include any reading materials?

Hi Marcos – sorry about that! We haven’t asked David for recommended readings, though I can do if you’d like. But we are videoing the events – not the same as being there, of course, but at least you won’t miss out completely!
