    Teaching, Learning, and Technology Consultant Position Information

    *Working Title:* Teaching, Learning, and Technology Consultant
    *UW System Title:* Teaching, Learning, and Technology Specialist II
    Essential Job Functions

    This position reports to the Director of CATL (Center for the Advancement
    of Teaching and Learning) and plays a critical role in the support of
    teaching excellence and student success. They directly consult with and
    support university instructors by designing, developing, and enhancing
    instructional activities, programs, and curricula, and they promote more
    effective learning experiences in courses offered across different
    modalities. They also apply learning theory and instructional design models
    in the consultation, selection, and application of educational
    methodologies and technologies.

    This position includes the following responsibilities:

    – Designs and develops engaging, effective learning experiences for
    courses offered across a variety of modalities.
    – Designs, develops, organizes, maintains, and consults on instructional
    materials, activities, curricula, and assessment resources in accordance
    with current pedagogical practices, cognitive/learning science, and design
    tools and methods.
    – Researches, designs, and/or acquires learning resources, technologies,
    materials, and/or processes to support learning.
    – Provides consultation, training, and/or support for learning
    technology tools and platforms.
    – Analyzes, tests, troubleshoots, resolves issues, and provides feedback
    regarding learning technologies.
    – Collects, organizes, interprets, and disseminates data to identify
    instructional program needs and enhance effectiveness.
    – Designs, develops, or recommends multimedia learning materials.
    Facilitates communications with multimedia service providers to ensure
    instructional needs are met.
    – Designs, develops, delivers, coordinates/manages, and evaluates
    faculty development and engagement programs and activities.
    – Participates in professional development communities, workshops, and
    conferences related to the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL),
    instruction, and technologies.

    Qualifications

    *MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:*

    – Bachelor’s degree at time of application
    – Knowledge of the field of instructional technology, educational
    settings, and basic teaching and learning principles
    – Ability to successfully engage in and/or manage multiple projects with
    competing deadlines and priorities
    – Ability to translate complex technical information into usable,
    easy-to-follow instructions
    – Ability to conduct effective one-on-one consultations with faculty
    members from across disciplines and modalities
    – Excellent judgment, including sensitivity to personal and confidential
    information
    – Ability to troubleshoot technical issues
    – Digital and web literacy skills and familiarity with productivity
    software applications
    – Working knowledge of standard business equipment and software
    – Experience working with any of the following: content management
    systems (e.g. Word Press), learning management systems (e.g. Canvas), web
    and programming languages, or classroom technology

    *PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

    – Master’s Degree in instructional design, educational technology, or a
    related field
    – Two years of experience in faculty technology support
    – Experience supporting instructional tools and knowledge of best
    practices regarding technology in education
    – Experience collaborating with instructors to implement pedagogical
    strategies in a variety of modalities
    – Experience in a higher education environment training instructors
    and/or teaching
    – Experience with Canvas or other learning management systems
    – Knowledge of web design and/or programming languages relevant to web
    design (HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc.)
    – Knowledge of authoring tools (Adobe Captivate, HSP, Storyline,
    iSpring, etc.)
    – Instructional design knowledge and/or experience (especially related
    to culturally-responsive pedagogies, equity-minded instruction, universal
    design for learning, etc.)
    – Experience in applying course quality assurance processes (e.g.
    Quality Matters, OLC Quality Scorecards, etc.)
    – Knowledge of accessibility guidelines, compliance, and regulations:
    web standards, closed captioning, etc.
    – Experience managing projects or initiatives
