Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

Art+Feminism Wikipedia Editathon, Saturday at MoMA & around the world

  • Hello All,

I’m writing to invite you all to the Art+Feminism Wikipedia Editathon happening this Saturday at MoMA and the Brooklyn Museum. Art+Feminism is a campaign to improve coverage of women and the arts on Wikipedia, and to encourage women-identified editorship. We have over 70 events at this point!

While the event is visual art focused, we are interdisciplinary inclusionists! You should feel free to come and learn about editing Wikipedia and write about feminist or LGBTQ culture workers, historians or theorists and their work in whatever discipline you work in.

    Michael

    2015 Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
    March 7th, 2015 from 11am – 5pm

Wikimedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity, however, is not. Content is skewed by the lack of female participation. This represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.

Let’s change that. Join us at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Education and Research Building at The Museum of Modern Art, 4 West 54 Street, on Saturday, March 7, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for an all day communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism.

We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, childcare, and refreshments. Bring your laptop, power cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. For the editing-averse, we urge you to stop by to show your support. Childcare requires advance registration on Eventbrite by Monday, March 2; please also email us at info@art.plusfeminism.org to let us know first names and number of children requiring care, their ages, and what time you plan on attending. Women, women-identified, and male allies are welcome. Women, women-identified, and male allies welcomed.
