The CUNY ESL Discipline Council invites grant proposals not to exceed $3000 from CUNY ESL programs for special ESL- related academic events (e.g., speakers, conferences). A total of $6,000 has been set aside to fund these special events. The funds were transferred from the former CUNY ESL Council to the CUNY ESL Discipline Council. Proposed events should take place during the Fall 2011-Spring 2012 academic year.
Special event proposals must meet one or more of the following criteria for consideration:
• Appeal to a broad CUNY audience concerned with ESL issues
• Contribute to the understanding of ESL pedagogy and theory
• Raise awareness of the contributions of ESL learners to CUNY campuses
• Contribute to the positive profile of ESL learners on CUNY campuses
Eligible applicants are limited to ESL programs at the CUNY colleges, including CUNY Language Immersion Programs (CLIPs). Continuing Education ESL programs and English Language Institutes are not eligible to apply.
Proposals must include a cover page that identifies the CUNY college, program, contact person, phone number, and email address. The proposal narrative must be limited to three pages and include a statement of the need, description of the event, and a budget.
Proposals must be submitted via email to khelmer@jjay.cuny.edu no later than February 1, 2011. Awards are expected to be made by March 15, 2011.
