Today, 167 Fairview Avenue is an unremarkable single-family home on a leafy, quiet street near Staten Island’s Clove Lakes Park—but a century ago—it was at the center of a terrible conflict between a family trying to live the American Dream and the forces of racism and bigotry. This documentary comic, a non fiction illustrated history in graphic novel form that Mr. Ledwith and Mr. Harris are creating: “Standoff on Fairview Avenue,” aims to shed greater light on this important and neglected chapter in American history.

Join us for an evening of lively discussion led by Professor Sara Gómez Woolley and enjoy a presentation about the development of this special book, its methodology and a sneak peak at the very first pages of “Standoff on Fairview Avenue” along with valuable perspectives and insights from the historian whose research is critical to the project, Debbie-Ann Paige!

“Standoff on Fairview Avenue” developed as part of writer Tim Ledwith’s research and coursework in the Biography and Memoir M.A. Program at The Graduate Center.
