 f the Graduate Center at 6pm on May 16<sup>th</sup> in Room 5414 on the fif
 th floor.</p><p>This special author and publisher talk will offer a unique 
 look into the distinct work and process of graphic novel artists editors\, 
 and writers <a href="https://www.katiefricas.com/?sandy-Jimenez-GC">Katie F
 ricas</a>\, Jisu Kim\, <a href="https://www.bishakh.com/?sandy-Jimenez-GC">
 Bishakh Som</a> and <a href="https://www.traced.com/?sandy-Jimenez-GC">Trac
 y White</a> in a discussion led by Street Noise publisher and founder Liz F
 rances.</p><p>There will be food and refreshments served after the Q&A.</p>
 <p><em>About our featured guests</em>:</p><p><a href="https://www.katiefric
 as.com/?sandy-Jimenez">Katie Fricas</a> is a queer cartoonist\, comics edit
 or\, and library worker in New York City. Katie's non-fiction essay comics 
 have been in The Guardian\, The New York Times\, The LA Review of Books\, a
 nd The New Yorker. Katie's first graphic novel\, Checked Out will be publis
 hed by Drawn & Quarterly. Follow her on Instagram @cartoonfricassee</p><p>J
 isu Kim is the deputy director of Triple Canopy. Formerly\, she worked at t
 he Feminist Press\, where she oversaw marketing\, sales and publicity\, and
  distribution\, as well as acquired and edited books.</p><p><a href="https:
 //www.bishakh.com/?Annabelle-Heckler-GC">Bishakh Som</a>\, who grew up in N
 ew York City\, but whose parents were originally from India\, received a ma
 ster’s degree in architecture from Harvard University and worked for many y
 ears in that field\, most notably at I.M. Pei’s New York office. Her work h
 as appeared in The New Yorker\, The Boston Review\, Buzzfeed\, and The Huff
 ington Post. Bishakh published a collection of stories with The Feminist Pr
 ess titled Apsara Engine. She lives in Brooklyn\, New York. Website: bishak

 le-Heckler-GC">Tracy White</a> began publishing her comics for young adults
  online in 1996. Her autobiographical series TRACED was twice nominated for
  a best web comic Ignatz\, and became a TV series for Oxygen. Her book How 
 I Made it to Eighteen: A Mostly True Story was on YALSA’s Great Graphic Nov
 els for Teens list. She is currently teaching comics at NYU’s Tisch School 
 of the Arts.</p><p><a href="https://www.streetnoisebooks.com/#whoweare">Liz
  Frances</a> is the founder and publisher of Street Noise Books. Having wor
 ked as an art director and book designer in the big publishing houses of Ne
 w York City\, Frances enjoyed collaborating with many gifted writers\, illu
 strators\, graphic artists and editors and saw a need for a different kind 
 of publisher to serve the graphic novel and graphic memoir form. In the wak
 e of the 2016 U.S. presidential election\, she became passionately driven t
 o advocate for the power of love and compassion in the face of hate and opp
 ression.</p><p>“I am creating Street Noise Books to provide a platform from
  which truth can be told\, a place to share our stories\, to foster communi
 ty\, and a means to build a future where all people are free and respected.

 r of a terrible conflict between a family trying to live the American Dream
  and the forces of racism and bigotry.This documentary comic\, a non fictio
 n illustrated history in graphic novel form that Mr. Ledwith and Mr. Harris
  are creating: "Standoff on Fairview Avenue\," aims to shed greater light o
 n this important and neglected chapter in American history.</span></p><p><s
