of online learners at CUNY\, and discuss implications for enrollment\, rete
ntion\, and student success in online and hybrid courses. This survey has b
een conducted by Profs. Kay Conway\, Alyse Hachey and Claire Wladis of BMCC
with students from across CUNY over three semesters since fall 2014\, and
will be continuing through the next year. Roughly 30\,000 survey responses
have been collected to date.</p><p>All students enrolled in a course at CUN
Y that had at least one section that was offered in an online or hybrid for
mat were invited to participate in the survey\; as a result\, survey respon
ses include students who took the same course in a fully online\, hybrid\,
or face-to-face format. Students were asked about their reasons for enrolli
ng in an online course\, about work and family factors that likely impact b
oth online enrollment decisions and course/college outcomes\, and about the
ir time use. They were also asked about various attitudes/skills that might
be relevant to online enrollment or course outcomes such as motivation\, e
 ngagement\, academic integration\, self-directed learning skills\, time man
agement skills\, preference for autonomy\, and grit. Affective factors such
as gender and ethnic identity and stigma consciousness as well as math and
subject identification and self-efficacy were also included\, and some ana
lyses were performed to look particularly at STEM versus non-STEM differenc
es. Demographic questions were also included in the survey.</p><p>Participa
nts are invited to attend in person at BMCC or via webinar. Detailed inform
ation about room location and webinar access will be confirmed shortly.</p>
