Has anyone ever used a public bike repair stand? (They look something like this: http://www.dero.com/products/fixit/index.html)
Is this something that could potentially be useful on CUNY campuses? The University of Virginia installed some repair stands last year and it seems like a great way to encourage biking to work/class since there’s a repair kit nearby. (Bike shops close way too early! Having some basic tools available may solve minor problems.) Even if you carry a toolkit with you, it’s nice to have the stand on which to hoist your bike to make the necessary repairs & adjustments.
I wonder how this project worked out at UVA. Were the stands used? Were they vandalized/burgled? How much maintenance/upkeep do they require? Has biking increased on campus?
Any thoughts?
