Hispanic and Latino Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
You’re invited to the Hispanic and Latino Wikipedia Edit-a-thon. Experience the rush of contributing to an online resource that 50 million people per day visit! and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by uplifting Hispanic and Latino culture and knowledge on Wikipedia! Join us to explore topics that highlight the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latin American communities, while learning how to add reliable, well-sourced information to the free online encyclopedia.
In this hands-on event, students, faculty, and community members will help expand and improve Wikipedia articles highlighting Hispanic and Latino history, culture, and notable figures. No prior experience needed—participants will receive training on how to edit and cite sources on Wikipedia in the first hour, and dive into editing in the remaining time. Bilingual and multilingual participants are encouraged and welcome to contribute to or translate between English Wikipedia and Spanish Wikipedia, and others!
Led by CUNY’s Wikimedian-in-Residence you’ll leave with the knowledge you need to start (or continue) your journey as a Wikipedia editor and join the CUNY and NYC wiki editing community.
Come for the snacks, stay for the wiki editing!
A limited number of laptops will be available or feel free to bring your own. Drop in for any amount of time you have. RSVP recommended (for snack calculations and ease of entry if not a CUNY community member).
This event is brought to you by the BMCC Library Open Knowledge team and the CUNY Wikimedian-in-Residence Initiative. Questions? Contact jean amaral ([email protected]).
