For this week’s blog post I shall cover, Mozart’s very iconic piece,”Eine kleine Nachtmusik” which you might recognize because it has appeared in several movies such as “The Batman (1992)”, “Penguin of Madagascar (2014)”, “Daddy Day Care (2003)”, and “Borat (2006)”. It is a great iconic piece that millions have heard in their lifetimes, but many do not understand how influential it is towards the innovation of music. There are several things to note about the piece Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’s rhythm and genre.

Lets start with the genre. This is clearly Western Classical Music. Mozart is well known to be an Austrian composer who composed music during the classical era (Around 1750 and 1820). The piece “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”, was released in 1827 way after Mozart died. However, knowing Mozart’s birth year and death year, (1756 -1791) we can assume this piece was composed around this timeline. With this knowledge, it all leads to declaring the genre as Western Classical.

The rhythm during this era had to be simple. Music was mainly used for social events such as partying and dancing. Mozart was paid to make pieces for others. Requiem Mass is a famous example of a song Mozart was paid to compose. It is very likely that Mozart has composed several songs in the case that he was paid to make more. I mean imagine if someone contacted you in the day without the internet saying they had a wedding in 5 months and they needed you to compose a song meant for dancing. It would be intense. Of course with modern technology it’s quite simple to make tunes and beats, but in these days, you needed to understand the mechanics of the instruments you’re playing, spend hours understanding the craft of musical composition. Mozart wasn’t any ordinary person, he was a master. And as a master of composing he’d definitely had music composed in the case of these scenarios. He did die young after all.
