Grant Proposal Project Narrative
The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely impacted students all over the United States.
Many CCNY students have lost the jobs that help fund their studies, have had resources fail to
meet their demands in a time of emergency, and some have even lost their places of residence
during this international crisis. The Hope Center for College, Community, and Justice at Temple
University recently conducted a multi-institutional survey exploring the pandemic’s impact on
the housing needs of students, the research included CCNY and revealed that 50% of the
institution’s students were housing insecure at the time of the survey. For too long many students
of CCNY have not been given the opportunity to adequately pursue their studies due to the stress
of housing insecurity, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have only helped to highlight this
troubling fact. With only one residential option, the Towers, CCNY does not offer its students
anywhere near sufficient on-campus housing options for an institution of its standing. Our
project’s objective will be to assess the housing options available to students of CCNY, to
evaluate students’ access to them, and to evaluate the ways in which they influence their studies.
Our Grant Proposal hopes to resolve this housing issue and allow students to reach their
maximum potential in their classes.

from even further away. Many colleges offer dorms as they are reliable to those that need a study
space to live and complete work while they are enrolled as students. City College is one of the
