Willingham makes the connection that practice serves to enhance memory. As a psychologist, I completely agree with this research based phenomenon. In my own experience, I have learned so much more when I have practiced problems repeatedly moving the information from a shallower place in memory to deeper consolidation. I encourage my students to really take account of how much time they spend practicing reading, writing annotating, the more time spent on practicing the material the more time the parts of your brain spend working memory gets a workout and things begin to stick. After all, forgetting new information happens almost immediately, and then slowly thereafter.
