Privacy Policy.

1. Privacy Philosophy and General Terms.

The CUNY Academic Commons understands the importance of your privacy rights. We are committed to transparency and disclosure of the ways in which we use personal and non-personal information. Our goal is to be as minimally intrusive as possible, but also to be transparent about the way we do use your information and to educate the users of our Site about the ways in which websites actually utilize personal and non-personal information and to locate our practices within that broader context.

The material you submit to the Site, including but not limited to, Blogs, Forums, Groups, Wikis, or other modalities, may be made public. If you are the administrator or editor of a Blog, Forum, Group, Wiki, or other modality on the Site, you may adjust settings to restrict the availability of that material to outside search engines. In addition, there may be links to independent web sites outside of the CUNY Academic Commons and we are not responsible for the privacy policies of other web sites.

We will take all reasonable measures to protect the integrity of private communication on the Site. However even protected sites can be subject to illegal hacking, technological glitches, user misconduct, and administrative errors, and we assume no liability for any of these actions or occurrences or their results.

2. Information We Gather, IP Address and Cookies.

In general, visitors to the site may remain anonymous by not logging in. The CUNY Academic Commons uses cookies to obtain non-personal information from visitors, to provide customization options at login, or to keep track of where you are in the Site in order to provide the correct customization options when you use the Site.

We do not retain or make available any personal data, except that which you actually post for public view (for example, information posted on your profile page). Please do not post your Social Security number, any personal identification numbers, or other private information not required for registering or using the Site.

The CUNY Academic Commons uses your IP address to help diagnose technology-related problems with the Site, administer the Site, and monitor Site usage. The CUNY Academic Commons also may combine your IP address with other information to create anonymous Site statistics. The CUNY Academic Commons does not use your IP address or cookies to collect personally identifiable information about you.
