I’m sharing this announcement on behalf of my friend, Guggenheim Fellow and poet extraordinaire, Mark Nowak, about a workshop he is organizing for community college students. I’ve attended a few of his workshops and events which center the artistry and experiences of domestic workers and it is more than powerful. His work is beautiful, as is theirs.

He is looking for 2-3 community college students who would benefit from this free poetry workshop (details below) with members of our Worker Writers School and the Retail Action Project. Mark writes, “As a community college grad myself (Erie Community College in Buffalo) and a long time fast food worker (8 years), I wanted to create a space for young workers in CC classes to meet like minded writers and activists.”

Here’s a bit more on the Worker Writers School: https://www.newyorker.com/books/page-turner/a-writing-workshop-for-workers-and-a-long-poem-about-taking-orders

Here’s the FB event page for the public reading. The CC-student poetry workshop (free) runs from 5:30-6:30pm; students can read (if they want to) w/ other members of the Worker Writers School at the public reading at 7pm.

Please share with any students you think might be interested — and any other community college faculty who might have interested students, too.  Students can register for the workshop here:

They can also email at this address or call/text Mark any questions at 646-593-2258.

The workshop is May 30 and he’s having a little trouble connecting with the community college students, so please forward to any contact we may have!
