Over the past few years, issues of racial, gender, sexual and other diversities and their multiple and varied definitions have become central to national discussions about equality, equity and social justice. Diversity in higher education- what constitutes diversity, how it can be addressed, and the consequences of its absence- has become an important issue across the CUNY campuses.
The DSC developed this conference in order to provide a forum for the growing number of doctoral students engaged in research, advocacy and conversations about diversity. The goal of this timely and crucial conference will be to engage Graduate Center students by bringing to together scholars, students, and activists from across disciplines. Workshops and panels will focus on innovative pedagogies, intersectionality, and creating greater accessibility for traditionally marginalized groups. We have already received workshop proposals from three different chartered organizations, and are inviting faculty members to participate as panelists and moderators.
