    *Director of the Digital Media Lab*

    The BGC offers MA and PhD programs in the study of the cultural history of
    the material world and is committed to the encyclopedic study of things,
    drawing on methodologies and approaches from art and design history,
    history of technology, philosophy, anthropology, and archaeology and
    cultural history. Founded in 1993, the BGC is located on West 86th Street
    in New York City.

    *Basic Function:*

    Reporting to the Dean, the Director of the Digital Media Lab is responsible
    for the development and implementation of digital media practices across
    academic programs. This position works with faculty, staff, and students to
    effectively incorporate interactive technology into pedagogical practice
    and student projects, and strategizes the software and hardware needs of
    the lab. In addition, this position participates in digital aspects of the
    BGC’s journal and monograph series, and directs the development of all
    digital media for the BGC’s Focus Gallery exhibitions. Specific
    responsibilities include:

    *CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: *

    – Establishing and maintaining relationships with academic and cultural
    heritage institutions that share common mission goals and methods of
    practice as the BGC.
    – Acting as part of exhibition staff for Focus Gallery Project, aiding
    curators in conception of digital features, and working with exhibition
    staff and outside contractors to bring projects to completion.
    – Advising on digital projects located in the library, art, and
    exhibitions departments.
    – Liaising with contractors on software development projects
    – Budgeting for various DML expenditures including hardware, software,
    publications, events, etc.
    – Managing two Digital Media Lab assistants
    – Managing the BGC’s use of wikis for course sites and
    academic administration
    – Maintaining installations of WordPress, Omeka, and Drupal for various
    BGC projects
    – Teaching workshops on relevant technologies and topics such as
    database design, word processing alternatives, Zotero, Omeka, Prezi
    – Hosting two DML salons (one each semester) a year to highlight work
    done by BGC students, staff, and faculty
    – Works with faculty on creating digital projects for BGC courses and on
    the development of digital components for faculty research projects

    *SUPERVISION EXERCISED/RECEIVED:*

    – Reports to the Dean
    – Involves significant interaction with faculty, academic administration
    & students

    *REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:*

    – PhD or PhD preferred (or be near completion) in a related field in the
    humanities
    – Five years demonstrated experience incorporating digital technologies
    into academic practice
    – Five years demonstrated experience teaching in higher education
    environments
    – Advanced knowledge and experience with content management systems (in
    particular wikis, WordPress, and Omeka); HTML and CSS; Adobe Creative
    Suite; Microsoft Office; website hosting and FTP

    *PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS*

    – Knowledge/experience with CAD (computer-aided design); 3D scanning,
    modeling, and printing; digital mapping and GIS; data visualization; Zotero
    bibliographical software; Javascript
