    I’ve been on the periphery of the planning of this open science event, and I think it’s shaping up into a really wonderful day. Please consider attending and/or passing the announcement on to people you think might be interested:

    OpenSciNY is a free, one-day conference on the impact of publicly accessible scientific tools & resources, open access publishing in the sciences, and open data/notebook efforts. The event is geared toward science faculty, students, and librarians.

    Date/Time: Friday, May 14, 2010, from 9:30am-6pm

    Location: New York University’s Bobst Library (next to Washington Square Park)

    Confirmed speakers include Jean-Claude Bradley (Associate Professor of Chemistry at Drexel University) and Heather Joseph (Executive Director of the Scholarly Publishing & Academic Resources Coalition).

    Lunch for the conference has been kindly sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry.

    For those who are interested in OpenSciNY but can’t attend…

    Science faculty, students, and librarians are welcome to view and participate in the virtual component of OpenSciNY this Friday, May 14, from 10am-6pm Eastern. OpenSciNY is a one-day conference hosted by New York University’s Bobst Library to encourage discussion about the impact of publicly accessible scientific tools & resources, open access publishing in the sciences, and open data/notebook efforts.

    The speaker presentations will be streamed live at:

    The schedule will be (roughly):
    10:15-11:15 Open Science in Practice (David W. Hogg, NYU)
    11:15-12:15 Open Access Publishing in Science (Heather Joseph, SPARC)
    12:15-1:15 Open Science and Libraries (Elizabeth Brown, SUNY-Binghamton)

    Then a break for lunch, followed by
    2:15-3:15 Open Notebook Science (Jean-Claude Bradley, Drexel University)
    3:15-4:15 ChemSpider – Building a Crowdsourced Chemical Database for the Chemistry Community (Antony Williams, RSC/ChemSpider)

    These presentations will be followed by roundtable discussion sessions. Virtual participants will be able to converse on similar topics via delegated “roundtable” threads within the FriendFeed room.
