The new reading group will examine different modalities of digital time in 5 sessions starting on May 26 and ending on July 21. It\’s organized by @tcissv.

Discussions will take place online through zoom. Please register by sending an email to info.houseoftime@gmail.com in order to receive the readings and the zoom link ahead of first meeting. Participant can join any number of meetings.

Part 1 will explore possible avenues of approaching texture of digital time by studying style. We\’ll read M. Blanchot\’s excavation of K. Marx\’s three voices, F. Jameson\’s reading of J. P. Sartre\’s style of punctuation and rhythm, Nietzche\’s autobiographic notes on his own writing style. An ongoing digital temporal work on TV show House MD @nocontexthousemd is offered as an application of temporalizing strategies discussed in the reading group.

Part 2 will focus on the work of P. Clough as she draws out contours of the political economy of television and televisual flows. Problems of temporal work, disavowed pleasure, over- and under- exposure to images will be discussed. Of specific interest is her reading of Deleuze\’s philosophy of time. Her piece, co-authored with C. Willse, offers timely ways to think contemporary forms of production of \’consent\’ for war-efforts through affective political branding.

Part 3 will focus on Nietzsche\’s undoing of identity of truth with permanence and how this critique shapes cinematic strategies as they are laid out by Gilles Deleuze through the work of a number of 20th century directors.

Part 4 looks at the questions of material basis of narrative as it constitutes the conditions of recording and transmission.

Part 5 ends the reading group with the thought of discontinuity in M. Heidegger, G. Deleuze and L. Parisi. Abundance of data, normalized uses of randomization, algorithmic editing of narratives all point toward the force of explosion of discontinuous times that cannot be assimilated into continuity of identity. In this regard, we\’ll think about possible aesthetics and politics of discontinuity.

Please email info.houseoftime@gmail.com for your questions.

    best ~ Jason
