I am an Assistant Professor at LaGuardia Community College. I specialize in nineteenth-century American Literature, African-American Literature, and Sound Studies. I am currently working on a book project that examines how music structured the politics and literature of race, enslavement, and citizenship from the U.S. abolitionist movement of the 1840s and 50s to the end of the Civil War.
