My dissertation, “Black Catholicism: Faith, Community, and Difference in Colonial Mexico,” examines the development of Black Christianity over the course of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, focusing on the social relations that cultivated black knowledge of the Catholic faith and its relevance in New Spain’s cultural formation.
