Private Group active 11 years, 3 months ago

This doctoral level research seminar examines CUNY’s unique history and contribution to New York City and the world. In addition to the early years of the Free Academy and Hunter College and the rise of the municipal colleges in the 1930s, the seminar will review the system’s dramatic growth, its people and policies over, especially over the past half century, including the fight over open admissions in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the impact of the city’s fiscal crisis of the mid-1970s, the battle over remediation in the 1990s, and contemporary issues related to state and city fiscal support, faculty governance, tuition increases and the rise of a strong central administration.
