Hi All, just circulating and ad for work on a mobile app for Prof. Chris Suggs. Feel free to share with (or suggest to me) any listservs or groups you think might be interested:

Professor Emeritus Jon-Christian Suggs is looking for help with the maintenance and further development of a mobile app that was produced as part of a PBS, ITVS, and CPB funded project.

MoreThanAMapp is a free, interactive, GPS-driven mobile app that locates and displays North American landmarks of African American history near the user; “Landmark” pages include summary identifying text, photos, videos, audio, web links; the user may search other geographic areas as well from a drop down menu; users may submit their own landmarks directly through the app. The app needs work producing internal hyperlinks, expanding into international landmarks of the wider African American diaspora, scheduling automated sweeps for breaks in the app, addubg audio for the sight-impaired, and crafting alternate types of compositions (chronological, thematic). In addition, Prof. Suggs needs help posting the source code to a public Github repository. Future plans include collaborating with a Harlem based initiative that supports African-American programmers.

Unfortunately there is no money available for this project at the moment. However, this would be great experience for anyone looking to work on a digital humanities project focused on geo-spatial mapping, African-American history, and augmented reality.

If you are interested in working on this project reply directly to Prof. Suggs via email at jonchristiansuggs@gmail.com
