Colleagues may be interested to know about the publication of a
digitization Toolkit for community engagement events and working with
cultural heritage institutions. The Toolkit can be found at
    http://www.metro.org/cit-toolkit

The Toolkit is an output of the Culture in Transit project, generously
funded by the John L. and James S. Knight Foundation, Knight News Challenge
on Libraries in 2014. It was a collaborative, 18-month-long mobile
digitization project of the Metropolitan New York Library Council (METRO),
the Brooklyn Public Library and Queens Library.

At the center of the project was the creation of a mobile digitization kit
to enable us to undertake community digitization events at public branch
libraries throughout Brooklyn & Queens and to create an on-site
digitization service for cultural heritage institutions across New York
    City & Westchester County.

The Toolkit features equipment kit lists, equipment recommendations,
strategies for undertaking community engagement events & working with small
cultural heritage institutions to digitize archival collections and
    downloadable resources.

A primary goal of this project was to create a replicable model for future
mobile digitization efforts. Therefore, we have licensed the contents of
the Toolkit under a CC 1.0 Universal license – anyone is free to reuse any
of the material in the Toolkit.
