I am delighted to announce three job opportunities at the Graduate Center, CUNY. These positions are part of the Humanities Teaching and Learning Alliance, a new, Mellon-funded collaboration between the GC and LaGuardia Community College. Please share this announcement widely.

With generous support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Graduate Center and LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York (CUNY) will establish the Humanities Teaching and Learning Alliance, an ambitious new partnership dedicated to training Ph.D. students in innovative methods to teach humanities to a predominantly immigrant, low-income, urban, undergraduate population. The goal of the alliance is to support graduate students in mastering the most successful methods for teaching undergraduate general education humanities courses to increasingly diverse student populations while simultaneously broadening and strengthening access to and opportunity in the humanities for those undergraduates.

    Open Positions

    Deputy Director, Humanities Alliance
Based in the Provost’s Office and reporting to the Associate Provost and Dean for Academic Affairs, the Deputy Director will join an institution with strong support for teaching and the humanities and will be part of an enthusiastic and collaborative community of faculty members, graduate students, and staff working together to equip the next generation of students and scholars. This position is funded by a grant and will end on June 30, 2020.

For full details and to apply for the position, please see the official job posting. Applications will be accepted until December 30, 2015.

    Humanities Scholar, Humanities Alliance

Based in the Teaching and Learning Center, the Humanities Scholar (Research Assistant Professor) will develop and implement a range of support initiatives for graduate students developing as college teachers, support the nine Mellon Teaching Fellows assigned to courses at LaGuardia Community College annually as part of the Mellon Humanities Teaching and Learning Alliance, and pivot the lessons of that Alliance to a broader community of teachers, students, and scholars based at the Graduate Center. The Mellon Humanities Scholar will also work with the director to broaden the programming and the institutional presence of the Graduate Center’s Teaching and Learning Center, now in its initial year. The position has an end date of June 30, 2020.

For full details and to apply for the position, please see the official job posting. Applications will be accepted until February 7, 2016.

    Post Doctoral Fellow, Humanities Alliance

Based in the Futures Initiative, the Post Doctoral Fellow will work on digital scholarly communication and public engagement related to the activities of the Alliance. The position resides at the border between technological platform development and humanities instruction, and will help to shape project engagement with various publics across multiple platforms and the broader community. The Fellow will have an opportunity to work with a team of experienced faculty, educational technologists, public humanities scholars, and pedagogical researchers to develop a range of professional skills related to university work in the humanities while helping shape the Alliance in its first two years. The Fellow is also encouraged to and will be supported in publishing their own scholarly work. This position has an end date of June 30, 2018.

For full details and to apply for the position, please see the official job posting. Applications will be accepted until February 7, 2016.
