While Joe Ugoretz and I met briefly in January, we did not call a larger subcommittee meeting, but will call for one in the week preceding the February CAT meeting. I’m out this Friday, but Joe has promised to report out and lead a brief discussion summarizing key events and points.

Eportfolios have definitely moved to a center and anchor position both within the university and across the nation. Key events over the winter included the unveiling of the Making Connections National Resource Center , a tremendously valuable online repository, along with Catalyst for Learning: ePortfolio Resources and Research . The unveiling took place this past weekend at the Connect to Learning Executive Summit at Georgetown University, followed by presentations at the Annual Meeting of the AAC&U in Washington, D.C. Catalyst for Learning represents long-term outcomes for Making Connections and then Connect to Learning campus team projects. Bret Eynon at LaGuardia and Randy Bass at Georgetown, among others, provided leadership for these funded initiatives over the past five years. Six CUNY campuses participated in the national Connect to Learning project (Hunter, Guttman, Lehman, SPS, Queensborough, and LaGuardia); there were a total of seventeen participating colleges. Each campus partner or team created robust public portfolios or pages for the Catalyst site, highlighting best practices on their respective campuses in reflective pedagogy, professional development, technology, social pedagogy, scaling up-scaling back, and assessment. Perhaps Laura Gambino, a member of the Making Connections National Resource Center leadership team, Howard Wach, or Gina Cherry will report out in more detail.

Our plans for the Eportfolio Symposium are largely in place, save the vibrant interactions in person on April 2, 2014, at Macaulay, and on our blog on the Academic Commons, which, thanks to Matt Gold, now has a cuny.is ID: Cuny.is eportfolios

Save the date emails will go out on February 7, 2014, along with the invitation, to all participants from last year and all CAT members: 2014 CUNY Eportfolio Symposium.

Please remember that registrations are limited to 75 people. The symposium includes breakfast, lunch, and cookies with coffee or tea as the aside for great, energetic, and engaged conversation on topics generated on the blog and over breakfast the day of the event.

Our future postings and emails will be coming from both of us: Joe Ugoretz and Barbara Walters.

    Barbara
