    Hello Group Admins –
We recently released Commons 1.8, and there are a number of enhancements we’d like you to know about.
Events Calendar lets group members enter events, notify other members via email, and aggregate these events in attractive individual, group, and global calendars while respecting privacy settings. It’s a great addition to you group, and we hope you try it out. Read more at: http://codex.commons.gc.cuny.edu/events-calendar/ and on our News Blog at http://news.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2015/05/26/events-calendar-for-groups/
Groups can now cross post to other group forums! And groups can now have social media icons – so, for example, if your group has a Twitter or Facebook account – you can easily set up a link on your group home page. You can now search through forum posts! This is a big improvement for groups that use their forum page a lot. Read about this new enhancement here:

We hope you enjoy all these new features!

I do not see “My Events” under my avatar.
    Has Commons 1.8 been released?
Do I need special status to access this functionality?

    Hi Stephen,

Yes, 1.8 has been released, and no, you don’t need special status to access
the calendar functionality. If you’ve been logged in at your computer for a
while, you may need to do a hard refresh to reload menus, etc. If that
doesn’t work, please email the team at commons@gc.cuny.edu and we would be
    glad to troubleshoot. Thanks!

I hope that groups begin exploring these new features. Calendars will be
great for groups scheduling events, conferences, and workshops, and the
ability to post to multiple groups at one time will help anyone hoping to
get the word out about an event, opportunity, or initiative.

    Best,

    Matt
