Hello, I am working on a grant for introducing blogs into the curriculum and would like to work with a consultant on setting up the course blog in WordPress. Of course I would put a budget line item in for the consultant. I have no idea how much fees are how many hours we would need. If anyone is interested, or knows someone, please let me know.

    Hi Diana,

Scope is important in answering this question. Here are some questions to
    consider:

    — Do you just need a few hours with the initial set up of the course blog,
or are you looking for help throughout the semester?
    — Will it be a single blog for a single course or are you looking for
someone to help with multiple sites?
    — Are there any custom features you will need?
    — Are you planning to use a standard theme or are you looking for custom
    design?
    — How many faculty members will this person be working with?
    — Are you looking for technical help, pedagogical advisement, or both?
    — How many hours per week would you expect this person to be working with
    you?
    — Will this person need to do support in addition to set up? Will this
person need to create documentation and support materials?

If the term/hours are limited, you could go with a flat fee (and the amount
would really depend on the scope — anywhere from $3000 – $5000 would help
you with initial set up, but if you are looking for more sustained help,
you will need more). As a point of comparison, Instructional Technology
Fellows at the Macaulay Honors College earn about $31k/year for 15 hours of
    work a week http://macaulay.cuny.edu/eportfolios/itfprogram/

    Best,

    Matt

Thanks for responding Matt, I was sort of thinking of a couple of hours work to help set up, and a couple of hours for troubleshooting in the semester. I would be surprised if the whole thing was more than five hours. The project involves two separate course blogs (one for each faculty on the grant), and there would be no need for custom design or features as far as I know. In any event, I don’t think we will be able to put in more than $1,000 into the grant for a consultant.
